The French law on the air and the rational use of energy (LAURE law) of 30 December 1996, gives "the right to everyone to breathe air which does not harm their health" and stipulates that a facility shall not "generate excessive olfactory nuisances".
Within the framework of impact studies related to activities that generate olfactory nuisances (composting, methanization, water treatment, knackery, petrochemistry, etc.), NUMTECH models odour atmospheric dispersion thanks to adapted software tools.
On the basis of the produced results, and with its team’s expertise, NUMTECH:
- assesses the olfactory impact of an existing or future facility;
- verifies that the regulatory requirements are met when they exist;
- helps to dimension facilities;
- provides elements for reflection to operators for strategic choices allowing to control, and even limit, the impact of activities on residents (chimneys or deodorization systems sizing, postponement of windrows turnings).
This topic is a specific subject for active R&D researches whose the aim is to offer, in the future, innovative tools for odour management and monitoring.
