No. But as soon as flammable substances (gases, vapors, combustible dust) are handled or present, an ATEX assessment is mandatory.
Zones 0, 1, and 2 refer to explosive atmospheres caused by gases or vapors. Zones 20, 21, and 22 refer to dust. These classifications indicate the frequency and duration of explosive risk presence.
The DRPCE is a mandatory regulatory document. It consolidates risk assessments, zoning plans, and the implemented prevention and protection measures. It forms the basis of the site's ATEX safety management system.
